For about 15 years now Beck has been genre-hopping like a chameleon to bring us an array of fresh sounds and now he is doing it all over again with his brand new album, Modern Guilt. This time he teams up with producer Danger Mouse (of Gnarls Barkley fame) and the results are surprisingly great. Many of you will know trip-hop artist Tricky for his work with the hugely successful Massive Attack, or his now legendary solo debut effort Maxinquaye. He has had his hits and misses, but now he is back to do it all over again with a (sort of) brand new song called “Slow”. Why sort of new? Because it is a cover of Kylie’s hit from her 2003 album Body Language. Hit or miss? You decide.
While surfing [V]2 I came across The Ting Tings. According to Wikipedia they are an English indie-pop band, consisting of two members Jules De Martino and Katie White. Their most known song is “Great DJ” check out the video below.
Thankfully MC’s crew came to their senses after the disappointing ”Bye Bye” and decided to release “I’ll Be Lovin U Long Time” as the next single from E=MC². The song is simply amazing, and is the perfect example of what Mariah can produce when she is inspired. The vocals are straight forward and not over the top, the harmonies - perfect. Tastitunes gives it 5 stars. The remix is exactly the same as the original, but includes a verse from T.I. Check it out.

Here is the brand new Madonna video for the second single off Hard Candy. The song is called “Give it 2 Me” and I’m sure most of you have already heard the song by now. The video is kind of cheap and it doesn’t really go anywhere, but she is Madonna and her loyal fans will love her for it. The songs producer, Pharrell, also appears in snippets here and there.
Ayşe Hatun Önal is another electronic artist who hails from the land of Turkey. For those of you who remember the Hande Yener song we previewed a few days ago, “Pinokyo”, this woman is probably her biggest rival right now. After a few more listens “Pinokyo” seems cheesy and uninspired, whereas Ayşe’s “Doğru Kanaldan Bağlan” is exciting, fresh, upbeat and new. Check it out.
“Married Man” is another stand out track by Australian singer, Paulini. “Married Man” was meant to be released as a single but was changed to “I Believe” at the last minute, another wrong choice. “Married Man” is my personal favourite on her album Superwoman. Have a listen and leave a comment.
Although CoCo Lee isn’t a big star in her native US, she is one of Asia’s biggest stars. The fact that she is relatively unknown in other parts of the world is a shame because it’s songs like the catchy “No Doubt” that the rest of the world have to miss out on… until now.
